MechSE Research Overview
The Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at Illinois is a leader in fundamental and applied research that advances and strengthens the engineering profession while responding to the needs of the state of Illinois, the nation, and the world.
In addition to addressing the diverse disciplines within Mechanical Science and Engineering, research in the department reflects the interests and creativity of our faculty and students, and explores a spectrum of emerging areas. The department is committed to educating new generations of researchers, to expanding its research partnerships with state and federal government agencies and with industry, and to working closely with other departments across the College of Engineering and the University in cross-disciplinary research efforts.
In addition to the abundant facilities within our Mechanical Engineering Building and Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, the Frederick Seitz Materials Research Laboratory, and other campus resources add strength and diversity to the department’s research. The Office of Technology Management works to enhance interactions between the University and industry to facilitate the transfer of technology to the public.
